Neighborhood Alert

10/7/2017

Aloha Neighbors,

We have received reports from two WKM homeowners that they have been followed through the entrance gate and to their homes by a couple of men waiting outside the gate on West Kuiaha. In one instance a man followed one of our residents through her own property security gate and into her driveway.

The men are claiming that they are with the Department of Health and Human Services. They are handing out a letter (click here to see the letter) and are wearing a hanging “badge” on their clothing to try and appear legitimate. In both instances the residents recognized them as fraudulent and demanded that they leave. The men are reported to be driving a white SUV/Jeep type vehicle and a brown Toyota truck.

These incidents have been reported to, and discussed at length with, Maui Police. It is suspected that these men are casing the neighborhood. Please take extra care to be aware of your surroundings as you enter and leave through the gate. If someone matching this description follows you through the gate we recommend calling 911 from the safety of your locked vehicle.

We will update you with any additional information we learn regarding this situation.
Aloha,

Caron Barrett, President
Your WKM HOA Board of Directors

Neighborhood Security Advisory

It has come to our attention that there have been recent home burglaries in nearby communities. Specifically, there have been break-ins and vandalism in the Windward Estates subdivision which is located east on Hana Highway past Ulumalu Rd. Another neighborhood in the same area, on Malawai Rd., also experienced break-ins and theft.

While these specific incidents occurred a few miles away, the neighborhoods targeted are similar to our own. It’s important that we all remain alert and vigilant to keep our neighborhood safe.  If you see suspicious activity or people at or inside the gates, you can email your observations to [email protected] for a prompt response as well as call 911 if the situation warrants. Also, if you are planning to be away from home for an extended period we suggest that you coordinate with a trusted neighbor who may be able to keep an eye out for activity at your property during your absence and notify you if needed.

We invite and encourage you to communicate with the HOA board for any matter of concern but ask that communications to the ‘security’ email address be limited to security related issues only. All other communications can be submitted through the contact form on the HOA website at www.westkuiahameadows.org
